„Works, Etc. / Töitä, jne“ is a solo show of AKTTEM designer Lotta Nieminen’s work: displayed at the Design Museum Helsinki in March 2019, the exhibition was adjoined with the Graphic Designer of The Year 2019 award, an annual recognition by Grafia (Association of Visual Communication Designers Finland).

The exhibition explored the same elements as her graphic design and illustration work — color, shape, white space and their relationship — in order to create a larger world around a selection of existing work. 

Included in the body of work, her design for AKTTEM:  BAU TRAY, a storage system that would function as a serving tray, but could be disassembled to work for a variety of different uses as well. 

Rather than just a display for the graphic design pieces, the “etc.” reexamines the work by removing them from their original utilitarian functions: staging them in new contexts or exploring their themes through new mediums and scales. Taking the forms of a metal frame or large colored boxes arranged into stacks, these new extensions are not quite graphic design, not quite art, not quite furniture.
